Jacobson came out after the couple’s marriage ended in 1999.
“He had already been living a gay life away from me after we divorced, and he said, ‘I don’t want you to be shocked. I’m dating men,'” Drescher tells People.
She adds that Jacobson hinted at his sexuality while they were still married.
“During our marriage he had told me he might be bisexual, but he wanted to stay married,” she says. “By the time he told me, I had survived uterine cancer. Nothing could shake me.”
Drescher tells People she’s glad she’s been able to rebuild her relationship with Jacobson and admits she used it as inspiration for her new TV Land sitcom, “Happily Divorced,” which premieres June 15.
