frank oz saturns gabi Frank Oz: 'I am Chick fil A innocent'When The Muppets publicly announced that they are boycotting fast food chain Chick-fil-A in response to the CEO’s anti-gay remarks, they became one of the largest mainstream detractors — but Frank Oz is steering clear of the controversy.

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and
inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that
we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors,” the company announced on July 20.

Oz (Muppets co-creator and voice of Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and more) is much less concerned about the issue — and he’s never eaten at a the fast food chain before, saying that he is “Chick-fil-A innocent.”

Zap2it caught up with Oz at the Saturn Awards on Thursday, and he was quick to distance himself from the newest Muppets iteration as well as the company’s boycott:

“I actually don’t know a thing about it. I’ve never had Chick-fil-A and I don’t know anything about it whatsoever. I’m not with the Muppets … it’s Disney’s Muppets now. I have nothing to do with it.”

Oz’s opinion of the latest Muppet movie and Disney’s ownership of the characters he created with Jim Henson isn’t exactly affectionate. On the red carpet, Oz mentioned that Sesame Street is his last remaining Muppet commitment.

“I do Sesame Street once a day per year because I want to show the guys how it’s done. They’re not lunatic enough. You got to be crazy.”

Fair enough. Perhaps if “Star Wars” jumps onto the anti-Chick-fil-A bandwagon, Oz (who also voiced Yoda) might have to try a chicken sandwich
and take an opinion on the matter.
