Maisie Williams has had to tackle a lot as Arya Stark on “Game of Thrones” — both of her parents being executed, seeing her brother’s detached head on a wolf, being kidnapped and almost being murdered more than once — the list goes on. Her troubles will be moving into the 21st century though,as Williams’ next role will be a cyberbullying victim in a Channel 4 one-hour special for the U.K titled “Cyber Bully.”
Williams will play Casey Jacobs, a U.K. teen who experiences peer-to-peer cyber bullying in what the network is calling a thriller. The special will take place in one location in real time with the focus on Williams throughout.
“The audience will be trapped with Casey for a full screen hour and we need an exceptional actress to play her,” says director Bryan Chan in a press statement. “I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role. Maisie Williams is not only remarkably talented, she also has an immediately likable, feisty screen presence which makes you root for her instinctively.”
The release also claims that 69% of teens in the U.K. claim to be victims of cyber bullying, making it a hot button issue in the country.
“Cyber Bully” is set to premiere in early 2015 on Channel 4.
