game of thrones ep4 320 'Game of Thrones' preview: Families are hardFamily is one of the primary themes in “Game of Thrones,” and Sunday’s (May 7) episode of the series comes at the idea of family ties in several ways.

There’s a pretty big development at the end of the hour that we won’t spoil. But the two clips below illustrate a couple of the numerous ways that the episode (and the series) explore what those ties mean.

In the first, Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and her governess Septa Mordane (Susan Brown) discuss what will happen when Sansa and Prince Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) get married and start having children, who will then become heirs to the throne … provided they’re boys. It’s a humanizing moment for Sansa, who thus far hasn’t been portrayed in the best light.

The second clip shows a conversation between Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and the Starks’ ward Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) at Winterfell. Tyrion was expecting to be greeted by Catelyn (Michelle Fairley), and he takes no small amount of joy in reminding Theon that he’s at Winterfell because his own father tried to rebel against the king.

“Game of Thrones” airs at 9 p.m. ET Sunday on HBO.
