HBO announced several premiere dates Friday (Jan. 13) at the TV critics’ press tour, but “Game of Thrones” is the headliner. It will debut at 9 p.m. ET April 1, taking over the timeslot after “Luck” ends its run.

The series will be joined later in April by a pair of new comedies, “Girls” and “Veep.” “Girls,” created by and starring Lena Dunham (“Tiny Furniture”), will debut at 10:30 p.m. April 15. It follows several young women struggling with the early stages of adulthood in New York.

“Veep” debuts at 10 p.m. April 22. Created by Armando Iannucci (“The Thick of It,” “In the Loop”), the show stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a former senator who becomes vice president of the United States — and finds the job isn’t as exciting as she hoped it would be.

HBO has also set a premiere date for its original movie “Game Change,” about the 2008 presidential campaign. The movie, which stars Ed Harris as John McCain and Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin, will debut Saturday, March 10.
