game of thrones season 5 directors hbo 'Game of Thrones' Season 5 has a lot of new directors“Game of Thrones” isn’t having a lot of returning directors in Season 5. Former staples like Alex Graves, Neil Marshall and even showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are taking the season off, which means that the upcoming season should have a fresh feel to it.

Entertainment Weekly revealed the lineup of Season 5 directors. With the exception of David Nutter, who didn’t direct any episodes in Season 4 (but most memorably did helm Season 3’s “The Rains of Castamere”), no returning directors are coming on board in Season 5.
Here is the full list and breakdown of which episodes they are directing:
Michael Slovis (“Breaking Bad,” “Law & Order: SVU”) : Episodes 1 and 2
Mark Mylod (“Entourage,” “Shameless”): Episodes 3 and 4
Jeremy Podeswa (“Boardwalk Empire,” “American Horror Story”): Episodes 5 and 6
Miguel Sapochnik (“House,” “Banshee”): Episodes 7 and 8
David Nutter (“The X-Files,” “Entourage”): Episodes 9 and 10
With “Game of Thrones'” biggest episodes of each season oftentimes being episode 9 and the finale, it’s significant that Nutter is directing the final two episodes of Season 5. Beyond that, it’s exciting to see what each new director will bring to the HBO fantasy series.
“Game of Thrones” Season 5 is slated to premiere in spring 2015.
