game of thrones breaking bad emmys 'Game of Thrones' will lose to 'Breaking Bad' at the 2014 Emmys, predicts author

“Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin weighed in on the Emmys race and the final season of “Breaking Bad” in a new blog post on his website. In the entry, he claims that neither “Game of Thrones” nor any other show has a chance of beating “Breaking Bad” when the show gets nominated at the Emmys for its final season.

“Amazing series. Amazing episode last night. Talk about a gut punch. Walter White is a bigger monster than anyone in Westeros. (I need to do something about that),” Martin writes after the airing of “Breaking Bad’s” third-to-last episode, “Ozymandias.”

He continues, “This is the final season of ‘Breaking Bad.’ I think ‘Game of Thrones’ may have a shot at upsetting ‘BB’ for this year’s Emmy (only a shot, though, I think they are the clear favorite), which pits us against their previous season … but there’s no way in hell that anyone is going to defeat ‘Breaking Bad’ next year, when their last season is the one in contention.”

Martin goes on to discuss “Game of Thrones'” chances of actually taking home Emmy gold in 2013. To him, this year is the show’s chance to win “given the splash the Red Wedding made.” “If the Academy is ever going to give their ultimate accolade to a fantasy show (something that is by no means certain), it’s going to be this year, I think,” he writes.

But as “Game of Thrones” fans know, the show is up against some tough competition for Outstanding Drama Series. Martin calls “Homeland” the “defending champ,” notes that “Mad Men’s” already won four times, and acknowledges that “House of Cards” has “that whole ‘gamechanger’ thing going for it.” Which show do you think will take home the Emmy for Outstanding Drama?
