First Psy took over the airwaves; now he seems poised to take over the world. The man responsible for the catchy-like-a-virus radio and YouTube hit, “Gangnam Style” wields some sort of power over people that compels them to do his signature dance.
Ryan Seacrest and Hugh Jackman are the latest to fall prey to the South Korean rapper, whose current single is a worldwide hit. The video for “Gangnam Style” features Psy doing a “cheesy” — hey, he said it himself — dance that’s becoming as popular to reenact as the long since played-out planking trend.
Seacrest can be seen in a staged video posted on YouTube, giving in and trying the dance after Psy’s presence infests E! Entertainment studios with the “Gangnam Style” urge. The rapper also visited “The Wolverine” set in Australia and donned some matching claws to teach Jackman his moves. Hugh tweeted, “Slicing gangnam style!!!! Great to meet @psy_oppa who visited set yesterday.” The video, thankfully, also made it to YouTube.
Silly as it seems, Psy is no William Hung, lest anyone think his popularity is a flash in the pan. The rapper-singer-producer-dancer’s infectious grooves have been topping the charts in Korea for more than a decade.
