According to People, Sue and Willie Coleman only kept track of their son’s life the last 10 years via what they read in the news. They read about his life, his marriage, his legal troubles and finally his brain hemorrhage and death — all through the media.
“We would’ve loved to have been there by his side at the
hospital, to let him know we love him before he passed away,” Sue
Coleman says. “This is a shock to us. We loved Gary very
much. We’re going to miss him.”
“We respect the relationship our son had with Shannon,” Sue adds. “When we found out he got married, we thought, ‘Well, at least he has someone in his life who he cares about and who cares about him.’ We were happy about that. But it’s frustrating that we haven’t heard from the Price family. But it’s possible they didn’t even know we existed. Gary may have told her that he didn’t have any family.” Coleman famously sued his parents in 1989 for a mismanagement of his earnings from his 1980s sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes.” In 1993, he was awarded a $1.2 million judgment against them. It doesn’t sound like he has had much contact with his parents since then. The whole situation is just heart-breakingly sad.
