daytime winners 'General Hospital' time slot changed to 2 pm EST as it evades cancellationIt’s been a rough year or so for soap fans, but finally, we’ve got some good news. “General Hospital” is on the move — but not to the television graveyard. The ABC sudser, which has almost always aired weekdays at 3 p.m. EST since its debut on April 1, 1963, will now air at 2 p.m EST (1 p.m. Central).

The move won’t go into effect until Monday, Sept. 10, so you’ve got some time to adjust your daily routine (and/or your DVR settings). The move coincides with the premiere of Katie Couric’s new daytime talk show.

When ABC picked up Couric’s show, “General Hospital” fans knew that their show was in danger. Luckily, instead of putting salt in the wounds of their loyal viewers, ABC opted to instead cancel “The Revolution,” keeping “General Hospital” on as its last remaining daily soap.

“General Hospital” won big last weekend at the Daytime Emmy Awards, winning both supporting actor and actress, and awarding “General Hospital” star Anthony Geary with his record seventh award, among other wins.
