While Halle Berry is somehow related to Sarah Palin, George Clooney has a slightly more prestigious political ancestor. It turns out that “The Descendants” star is actually descendant from Abraham Lincoln.
So shouldn’t he have starred in Stephen Spielberg‘s “Lincoln” instead of Daniel Day-Lewis? Maybe, but the connection was only revealed by Ancestry.com (via Reuters) today. According to the genealogy website, Clooney is the half-first cousin five times removed from our nation’s 16th president. In other words, Lincoln’s mother, Nancy Hanks, was the half-sister of Clooney’s great-great-great-great-grandmother, Mary Ann Sparrow.
Lincoln is quite a popular figure in our pop culture this year. “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” exaggerated the president’s backstory by saying he was actually a vampire slayer when that film came out in June, while Spielberg’s “Lincoln” is due in theaters Nov. 16 and is earning both the director and Day-Lewis some major Oscar buzz.
