george zimmerman bail hearing getty George Zimmerman's bail set at $150,000 for Trayvon Martin shooting deathA judge ruled Friday (April 20) that George Zimmerman can be released on $150,000 bail while awaiting trial for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, reports the Associate Press. During the hearing, Zimmerman also apologized to Martin’s parents for their son’s death.

“I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son. I did not know how old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am. I did not know if he was armed or not,” Zimmerman, 28, said.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester did not say when Zimmerman could go free but did set several conditions for his release, including that he can’t have any firearms, drink alcohol or use illegal drugs, and must adhere to a curfew. Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, wants the judge to allow his client to live in another state because of threats against him. The judge said he would hold another hearing on the matter if details couldn’t be worked out with law enforcement.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder for shooting the Florida teen on Feb. 26. A former neighborhood watch volunteer, Zimmerman claims he acted in self-defense, though Martin was unarmed.

Do you think $150,000 bail is fair?
