ghostbusters columbia pictu 'Ghostbusters 3': Bill Murray's Venkman could be recast, says Dan Aykroyd reportDan Aykroyd stopped by the Empire Online offices for a webchat Wednesday (Feb. 15) and was more than happy to answer questions about “Ghostbusters 3,” the possible sequel in the franchise that has been talked about for years.

“If we can get the script to ‘Ghostbusters 3’
right, then it would definitely have [Rick] Moranis as a major component. None
of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant,” says Aykroyd. “The script must be perfect. We cannot release a film that is any less than that. We have more work to do.”

Regarding Bill Murray, who it is rumored is not on board with a sequel, including a rumor that he shredded a draft of the “Ghostbusters 3” script, Aykroyd says, “Bill Murray is not capable of such behaviour. This is
simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep,
private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate
frequently and his position on the involvement in ‘Ghostbusters 3’ has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work.”

However, Aykroyd also reportedly implied during the webchat that the role of Peter Venkman would not be written out if Murray was not on board with the film – it would be recast.

Can we just say that not only does “Ghostbusters 3” kind of sound like a terrible idea already, but that without Murray as Venkman it sounds even worse. What do you think, fans?
