glee s3 ep3 emma parents 'Glee': Emma's parents, ginger supremacists, explain everythingIt’s no secret that Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) is an aggravated, if cute, ball of emotion and OCD all wrapped up in adorable retro outfits. But how did she get that way — deathly afraid of germs and intimacy?

Finally, after two seasons of speculation, we finally know: like most of us, blame can be squarely placed at the feet of her parents.

In the third episode of the season, “Asian F,” Will (Matthew Morrison) meets Rusty and Rose Pillsbury, ably played by Don Most (“Happy Days”) and Valerie Mahaffey (“Northern Exposure”) and they are, without question, the source of both Emma’s red hair and her quirks.

First, they are — as Emma admits to Will — “ginger supremacists” who profess a distaste for Will’s “wooly” brown hair, but approve of his German heritage since that means he’s probably descended from Vikings.

We also see a flashback to an adorable elementary school-aged Emma, whose mother’s constant picking and handy Wet Wipes were the direct cause of her OCD, which started to flare up in the presence of mom and dad.

Luckily for Emma, she’s got a guy who is not only willing to work with her on the OCD and the intimacy and totally give her a pass for being a closet Bride-zilla (she has a secret cache of wedding mags with titles like “Marry Me Monthly”), but totally get down on his knees and sing her some Coldplay.
