“Glee” paid homage to some of the best (and cheesiest) songs of the ’80s in their May 4 episode, “Bad Reputation.”
Sure, some of these songs may have been over-played in their day, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate a healthy dose of nostalgia. The episode inspired us to hunt down the old videos … and if we’re rocking some air guitar right now, well, that’s our business!
Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) was mortified when Kurt (Chris Colfer) and his friends stole her private videos. No, there’s no Sue Sylvester viral sex tape – we’re sure they’re saving that plot twist for later – but instead, Sue’s secret pastime is recording herself re-enacting Olivia Newton-John‘s 1981 video for “Physical,” which was ranked at #1 on Billboard’s 50 sexiest songs of all time. (No, really.)
To close out the episode, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and her suitors Puck (Mark Salling), Finn (Cory Monteith) and of course, Jesse St. James (guest star Jonathan Groff) sang a heartfelt rendition of “Total Eclipse of the Heart (Turn Around).” Though the song will definitely be familiar to fans of the 2003 movie “Old School,” the song was made popular first in 1983 by Bonnie Tyler.
You don’t want to miss this goth-inspired classic video which was filmed at an actual sanatorium. The word “epic” comes to mind, and the over-wrought emotion only makes Rachel and Jesse’s ballet homage all the more melodramatic.
