If you’ve already looked into flights to New York to see a “Glee” stage show, you can hold off on booking the tickets.
Reports surfaced late last week that the FOX series — which is doing a four-city tour in May — would also be turned into a stage musical. But 20th Century Fox TV, which produces the show, says that’s not the case, at least not right now.
The speculation stemmed from reports on Playbill.com and in Variety last week that Music Theater International, which licenses rights for Broadway shows, had a deal for “Glee” “in the works.” The studio begs to differ, Playbill now reports.
“We are very careful and deliberate when contemplating brand extensions of our franchises,” 20th Century Fox says in a statement, “and are mystified why Music Theater International would claim there have been any such discussions about a live theatrical version of ‘Glee.'”
So for the time being, Gleeks will have to settle for the show returning to FOX on April 13. And the next release of music from the show. And the May tour.
