For this week’s “Glee” episode, “Thanksgiving,” fans will get a whole bunch of blasts from the past — both in terms of characters and in terms of songs. You don’t have to wait until the episode airs on Thursday (Nov. 29) though. You can listen to the audio recordings of six songs from the episode now.
Because it’s the first Thanksgiving following their graduations from McKinley High, most of the alumni are coming back to visit this week. And because Finn (Cory Monteith) wants to be just as heartwarming and encouraging as Mr. Schuester, those alumni will come give advice to the youngsters.
This is “Glee.” So much of that advice will come in the form of thematically appropriate singing. What singing do we get?
First up, we have a mash-up of “Homeward Bound” (by Simon & Garfunkel) and “Home” by Phillip Phillips. Singers include Quinn (Dianna Agron), Puck (Mark Salling), Mercedes (Amber Riley), Mike (Harry Shum Jr.), Santana (Naya Rivera) and Finn.
If this is the first time you have ever heard “Homeward Bound,” by the way, you should really go find the original. It’s pretty incredible.
“Whistle” by Flo Rida is up next. This is the Sectionals episode, so that’s the Dalton Warblers singing.
That’s not all for the Warblers though. They get another Sectionals tune as well — “Live While We’re Young” by One Direction. Fitting that they would choose a boy band, isn’t it?
What does New Directions have to compete against these songs? Frighteningly, at least one of their offerings seems to be Psy‘s YouTube phenomenon, “Gangnam Style.” Can they actually win with that?
You may have noticed that a couple of McKinley alums do not, in fact make it home for the holiday. Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Rachel (Lea Michele) instead spend their Thanksgiving in New York City. At least they get to spend it with Isabelle (guest star Sarah Jessica Parker). Here they all are, singing a mash-up of “Let’s Have a Kiki” by the Scissor Sisters and “Turkey Lurkey Time” from “Promises, Promises.”
