glee first time 307 west side story 'Glee': Ryan Murphy responds to PTC complaints

Surprise, surprise: The Parents Television Council is not okay with tonight’s (Nov. 8) “Glee” episode “The First Time,” when two McKinley High couples have sex for, well, the first time.
“The fact that ‘Glee’ intends to…celebrate children having sex is reprehensible. The gender of the high school characters involved is irrelevant,” the PTC complains.
But “Glee” boss Ryan Murphy tells Entertainment Weekly that nobody at Fox was concerned with what goes down in the episode, and that he thinks it’ll be a positive message to send to young people. “I think what it says to a lot of young gay people who are confused and ashamed is that you can get love and are worthy of love,” he tells EW.
Murphy says the “Glee” writers room felt it was important to address Kurt and Blaine’s love story much like they would Finn and Rachel’s. “Everybody has seen a straight couple losing their virginity, but has anyone dovetailed the gay and straight stories together and given them equal weight? That seemed like an exciting choice and a new thing,” Murphy tells EW.
Chris Colfer, who plays Kurt, predicted the outrage yesterday, saying, “I absolutely expect to hear from them, but I think it’s handled very sweetly and very emotionally.”
