FOX really wants to know the answer to “What does the fox say?” And to get that answer, the network enlisted some of its stars — including Jane Lynch and Darren Criss of “Glee” — and a whole bunch of show clips for a new version of the Ylvis hit, “The Fox.”
In case you somehow missed the original video from Norwegian comedians and talk show hosts who record under the name “Ylvis,” “The Fox” is a surreal and hilarious music video. Its main point seems to question the sounds a fox might actually make. In the process, the singers make many sounds that foxes most definitely do not say.
This truly is an Internet hit. Only hitting the web on Sept. 3, the “Fox” video has amassed more than 33 million views on YouTube in two weeks. The single even made the No. 29 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The FOX network couldn’t let this marketing opportunity go.
While most of the video is just footage from FOX shows (many people dance on these programs, apparently), the network did enlist a few stars to lip-sync specifically for the video. These people include “Glee” stars Jane Lynch and Darren Criss, Lamorne Morris of “New Girl,” Michael Ealy of “Almost Human,” Geoff Stults of “Enlisted,” and “Bones” actress Tamara Taylor.
It’s almost as good as the original. And that’s saying a lot.
