mike omalley pilot gi 'Glee's' Mike O'Malley joins NBC comedy, plus more pilot castingBurt Hummel could be moving out of Lima: “Glee” semi-regular Mike O’Malley has taken a role in NBC’s comedy pilot “Welcome to the Family.”

The show follows two families, one white and one Latino, who have to get acquainted fast when their kids fall in love and get pregnant. O’Malley, who’s also recurring on “Justified” this season, will play the father of the pregnant girl, an easygoing orthodontist.

O’Malley has done pilots in each of the past two years, but they haven’t been picked up, leaving him free to continue with “Glee” and various other shows. He’s also guested on “Parks and Recreation” and “Raising Hope” in the past year.

Other pilot casting news:

Jason Isaacs (“Awake,” the “Harry Potter” movies) will play the title character in CBS’ drama “The Surgeon General.” (Zap2it had something else in mind, but that’s OK.) He’ll play a widowed father of two who is raising his two daughters while dealing with the social and political impacts of his job as surgeon general of the United States.

Isaacs is the second “Harry Potter” star to join a CBS pilot this week. Rupert Grint is starring in the network’s comedy “Super Clyde.”

– On the heels of casting its good guy in Mike Vogel, CBS’ summer series “Under the Dome” has found its villain. “Breaking Bad” star Dean Norris will play James “Big Jim” Rennie, a car dealer and selectman in the Maine town that suddenly becomes encased in a dome. Big Jim sees the incident as a way to tighten his grip on power in the town.
