“My name is Kim Cattrall, and you may be asking yourself why I have been chosen to be the honoree at the [GLAAD Media Awards]? Well, as many of you know, I played a gay man on a very popular television show for six wonderful years!”
Catrall, “Sex and the City’s” Samantha, picked up top honors on Saturday (May 14) at GLAAD’s annual Media Awards, held in San Francisco. “Glee’s” Naya Rivera was on hand to host the event that honors media and entertainment figures who are support of the LGBT community.
“And more importantly, gays and lesbians have been my friends and supporters since the beginning of my career, and it has been an honor to stand up and give them my fullest support, both on-screen and off,” added Cattrall as she accepted the organization’s Golden Gate Award. “And it is great to see Naya Rivera and many of the new generation of young performers doing the same…It is so meaningful to be here accepting this tribute from an organization that does such important work.”
Also in attendance: Writer/director Lisa Cholodenko who accepted an award for Outstanding Film for “The Kids Are All Right.” Presenters included Dustin Lance Black, “Dancing with the Stars” pro Louis Van Amstel and “Extra’s” Mario Lopez.
