madonna golden globes 2012 Golden Globes ratings pretty much even with 2011The 2012 Golden Globes had the same host and the same complement of stars as the 2011 awards. They also had basically the same TV ratings as last year.

Time zone-adjusted numbers for Sunday’s (Jan. 15) telecast show the Globes falling just a little bit shy of the 2011 show’s ratings, but not in any significant way. (Time zone-adjusted ratings are more accurate than the fast nationals in measuring live broadcasts.)

Sunday’s show, featuring comedian Ricky Gervais in his third turn as host, drew 16.84 million viewers, down a statistically insignificant 157,000 viewers from last year’s show. The Globes scored a 5.0 rating among adults 18-49, compared to 5.2 in 2011.

The ratings were NBC’s best non-sports numbers on a Sunday night since last year’s Golden Globes, but looking at recent history, both last year’s ceremony and this year’s are on the low end of the Globes scale.

The Globes in 2008 (which because of the writers strike consisted of just a press conference announcing the winners) and 2009 (14.86 million viewers) drew smaller audiences than the past two years, but every other NBC telecast of the awards since 1996 has been bigger.
