As far as “Good Witch” fans have been concerned, the most magical relationship in all of Middleton was the one between Cassie Nightingale (Catherine Bell) and Jake Russell (Chris Potter). Unfortunately, in the franchise’s transition from movies to a television series, Potter’s character was killed off.
Now, with Jake no longer in Cassie’s life, there are romantic possibilities around every corner for the mysterious enchantress. One such possibility is her neighbor, the curmudgeonly doctor named Sam Radford (James Denton).
“Of course [Cassie and Sam] clash because he’s a doctor and he’s very western medicine, and Cassie is quite the opposite,” Bell tells Zap2it
. “Of course there’s conflict, but within that, often great chemistry happens.”
But Sam isn’t Cassie’s only suitor. During Episode 3, Cassie and her good friend Ryan (Anthony Lemke) locked lips in an effort to make Ryan’s ex-wife jealous, effectively opening up a door for a relationship.
“I think later in the season it gets more fun, as Cass maybe gets open to the idea of moving on,” says Bell. “But there’s some kind of love triangle going on. There’s another guy who’s her best friend, Ryan. He starts to maybe vie for her attention. Then there’s Sam, and Sam’s involved in the love triangle with other ladies in the town. It’s very interesting.”
“Good Witch” airs on Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel.
