springsteen grammys 2012 Grammys 2012: Bruce Springsteen opens show with new single 'We Take Care of Our Own'Bruce Springsteen kicked off the 2012 Grammy show by asking the crowd, “Are you alive out there?” Considering the events of the past 24 hours, that was maybe not the greatest choice of opening lines.

Springsteen and the E Street Band made up for it, though, with their performance of their new song “We Take Care of Our Own.” The anthemic tune is the first single off the Boss’ new album, “Wrecking Ball.”

The performance was the band’s first since saxophonist Clarence Clemons died last June. Clemons’ nephew, Jake, and Eddie Manion will share sax duties when the band kicks off a world tour starting in March.

So, back to that “are you alive” comment: What did you think of it? We heard it more as a standard “get on your feet” call to the audience, but we can see how, in the wake of Whitney Houston’s death, people might take it a different way. Having listened to red-carpet hosts exhort artists to “kill it” before the ceremony, though, seemed far more questionable.

Weigh in on that, and on the the performance of “We Take Care of Our Own,” in the comments.
