The Grammy Awards will feature a tribute to Michael Jackson with performances from the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson and Usher — and 3-D glasses.
The awards, which air Sunday, Jan. 31 on CBS, will include the previously unseen 3-D “mini-movie” for Jackson’s “Earth Song.” The video was intended to be a centerpiece of the “This Is It” tour he was preparing for at the time of his death last June and will now have its debut during the Grammys.
“It was one of the most important portions of the concert tour to Michael, and when Michael saw the film for the first time at his last rehearsal, there were tears in his eyes,” says Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich, a long-time associate of Jackson’s who was present at the final rehearsal.
Celine Dion and Carrie Underwood will join Usher, Hudson and Robinson in paying tribute to Jackson at the awards.
CBS and Target will provide 3-D glasses to viewers in advance of the awards. They’ll be available at Target stores starting Sunday (Jan. 24).
