The maliciously edited Shirley Sherrod video was a pretty big mess for TV news, but at least networks managed to escape taking all the blame. The same can’t be said for FOX News’ Greta Van Susteren, whose show made “a doozy of a mistake” on Monday by flashing footage of Sherrod while discussing California Democrat Maxine
Waters‘ alleged ethical violations.
Now, this might be an understandable mistake if these women resembled each other in any way other than the color of their skin.
Susteren took to her blog to explain what went wrong:
]]>writes, “I hate to tell you but we need to fess up to this one. Somehow when we were talking about Congresswoman Maxine Waters during the news show, tape went up on our screen of Shirley Sherrod and not Congresswoman Waters. Yes, a very bad mistake and a painful one for which we are very apologetic.”
A nice apology, sure, but not much of an explanation. Do tapes just pop up on screen at America’s most-watched cable news channel?
