greys heigl return 'Grey's Anatomy': Katherine Heigl wants back on the show but does the show want her?TV fans are never happy when a beloved character makes an abrupt exit…
especially if it’s because the actor opted not to return. Christopher
Meloni on “Law & Order: SVU”… Lisa Edelstein on “House”… Chad
Michael Murray on “One Tree Hill.”

But no one has caused a stir quite as much as Katherine Heigl did when she left “Grey’s Anatomy”
in 2009. Earlier in the year, she’d asked for her workload to be
reduced to accommodate her new daughter and budding film career, but as
her return to the show approached, she decided she didn’t want to come
back at all and requested a release from her contract.

Now that she’s got a new movie coming out (“One For the Money,” which
opens on Jan. 27) she says she’s hoping for a return to the show. “I’ve
told them I want to,” she tells E!. “Being a showrunner and being a
writer of a TV series like that is so
complicated that, I mean, she’s got how many characters on there now?
There’s a lot and so she’s balancing about 40 different story lines, so I
don’t know if it fits into their sort of vision for this season or next
or however many seasons it goes.”

Hmmm. An attempt to appeal to “Grey’s” fans while she’s trying to promote a new film? Not fishy at all.

Her time on “Grey’s” was controversial and contentious — she spoke out
against co-star Isaiah Washington when he used a homophobic slur against
T.R. Knight, she publicly complained about the quality of the material
written for her character, and she made a fuss about long hours during a
“Letterman” appearance (it was later revealed the hours had been
extended at her own request).

“I really, really, really want to see where [Izzie] is. I just want to
know what happened to her and where she went and what she’s doing
now,” Heigl says.

Frankly, we’re not sure we’re interested in seeing Izzie return to
Seattle Grace — especially if it means we’ll have to hear about more
tiresome behind-the-scenes drama-rama. Karev is finally over her — let
it stay that way!
