modern-family-bringing-up-baby-sofia-vergara-ed-oneill.jpgABC has good news for fans of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Modern Family” and “The Middle:” All three shows will get two extra episodes added to their full-season orders this year. Mystery dramedy “Castle” will get a single extra installment.

That brings the episode totals for “Grey’s,” “Modern” and “Middle” to 24 this season, while “Castle” will run for 23.

The additional orders are fairly standard for all of the series. Both “Modern” and “Middle” are in their fourth seasons and have produced 24 episodes in all previous seasons. “Grey’s Anatomy” similarly has produced at least 24 episodes in most of its seasons. The 23 episode order for Season 5 of “Castle” matches what it received in Season 4 (though Season 2 and 3 both ran for 24 episodes).

Fox also ordered two extra episodes of first season comedy “The Mindy Project” today. But ABC wasn’t as kind to “Private Practice,” announcing the series would come to an end after its current run of 13 episodes.
