greys anatomy future seasons 'Grey's Anatomy' to stay on ABC 'for many years to come,' says ABC boss

“Grey’s Anatomy” is currently airing its tenth season — a very rare achievement for a TV series to reach these days, and ABC’s Entertainment President Paul Lee knows it.

“‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is either [the] number one or two [drama on TV], depending on the week. Right now it’s tied with ‘Scandal’ for number one,” Lee tells a group of reporters during the ABC Winter Press Tour on Friday (Jan. 17). “[Executive producer] Shonda Rhimes is one of the greatest writers our generation has ever seen. She continues to write an immensely powerful show.”

Lee is confident that the long-running drama won’t be ending anytime soon. “It makes you laugh and cry every week. And to her enormous credit, it’s completely different from ‘Scandal,'” Lee says. “I love it. I think it’s going to stay on the network for many years to come.”

Unfortunately, Lee didn’t have any news on whether the current cast would stay on for additional seasons or follow their fellow cast member Sandra Oh and depart at the end of Season 10.

“Grey’s Anatomy” returns Thursday, Feb. 27 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
