“Grey’s Anatomy” fans are having fits over the upcoming musical episode. We’re not kidding. We saw someone faint with seizures. Okay, we’re kidding about that. But, it is a big deal and Ellen DeGeneres has her finger on the pulse of pop culture. So when Ellen Pompeo (who plays Meredith) stopped by the show, the host made her spill some deets on the episode.
On the idea at first: “When Shonda [Rimes] presented the idea, of course I did my eye roll and the ‘Oh, brother’ that comes along with it. And then we read it and I have to say, I think people are going to love it.”
On the music selection: “I don’t want to give too much away but the way it unfolds isn’t typical. There is some singing and dancing but basically we’re taking songs that the show has made famous like The Fray and Chasing Cars and those kind of songs and we’re singing them. So it’s the music you’re used to hearing.”
On whether she sings: “Yeah, they made me. I didn’t have a choice.”

On how the music is incorporated: “Somebody is in a coma and it is their dream… The focal point of the episode is Sara Ramirez who plays Callie. She won a Tony for ‘Spamalot’ so she can really sing, so she does the bulk of the singing.”
For more from Pompeo’s interview, watch “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday, March 8.
