andrew koenig growing pains 320 'Growing Pains' star Andrew Koenig was a part of our childhood

Much has been written about “Growing Pains” star Andrew Koenig in the last week or so. His disappearance, and what we now know to be his untimely death, has made headlines for days.

Andrew Koenig is not a name that I was familiar with before the media firestorm surrounding his disappearance began. But Andrew, the actor, is someone I’ve known seemingly forever.
If you grew up watching “Growing Pains” in the 80s, his character — Boner Stabone — was, and always will be, a part of your childhood.
Andrew’s sweet face coupled with Boner’s dimwitted, but always endearing disposition made him more than memorable to the show’s loyal audience.
So memorable that the thought of his loss, more than 20 years after his character was written off “Growing Pains,” is truly saddening. I never met the man, but the kid in me who just loved TV and who watched shows like “GP” with wide eyes, feels like she knew at least a small part of who he was. And I know I’m not alone in that thought.

Boner’s distinct voice and, again, Andrew’s sweet face, standing on the Seaver driveway with his buddy Mikey, making us laugh, effortlessly likable, will not be easily forgotten.
We love ya, Bone.

Prayers and sincere condolences to the Koenig family.
