dh2 friday box office 'Harry Potter' conjures up a record destroying $92.1 million opening day“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” set an all-time box office record with its opening day on Friday (July 15).

The final film in the franchise earned an estimated $92.1 million, the best single day for any film ever. It shattered the previous record of $72.7 million, set by “Twilight: New Moon” in 2009. The $92.1 million includes the $43.5 million — another record — the movie made in midnight showings.

Overseas, “Deathly Hallows Part 2” made an additional $82.5 million on Wednesday and Thursday. Estimates for Friday weren’t available.

The massive Friday take puts the movie on pace to smash the opening-weekend mark for the U.S. too. The current three-day record is $158.4 million by “The Dark Knight” in 2008; “Harry Potter” is already more than halfway there.

As you’d expect, no other film is even within shouting distance of “Deathly Hallows Part 2” at the box office. But for the record, the rest of Friday’s top five are “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” ($6.3 million), “Horrible Bosses” ($5.5 million), “Zookeeper” ($3.6 million) and the weekend’s only other new release, “Winnie the Pooh” ($2.9 million).
