HBO has released new trailers for two of its upcoming series, “Boardwalk Empire” and “Treme,” and in a word: Whoa.
Both teasers give a great sense of the atmosphere of the two shows — “Treme” is set in post-Katrina New Orleans and “Boardwalk Empire” in Prohibition-era Atlantic City — and feature a number of familiar faces to long-time HBO viewers.
“Treme,” which comes from “The Wire’s” David Simon and Eric Overmyer, stars that show’s Wendell Pierce and Clarke Peters, along with Kim Dickens (“Deadwood”) and Khandi Alexander (“The Corner”) as well as Steve Zahn and John Goodman. It’s scheduled to premiere Sunday, April 11. Take a look.
“Boardwalk Empire” was created by “Sopranos” writer-producer Terence Winter, and the pilot was directed by Martin Scorsese. It stars “Sopranos” alum Steve Buscemi as a bootlegger, along with Gretchen Mol, Michael Pitt, Michael Shannon, Kelly Macdonald and “The Wire’s” Michael Kenneth Williams. It debuts in the fall.
To recap, then, HBO will have “The Pacific” and “Treme” on air this spring, “True Blood,” “Hung” and “Entourage” in the summer and “Boardwalk Empire” in the fall, plus the fantasy series “Game of Thrones” early next year. Pretty good, no?
