Hilary Duff, whose debut young adult novel “Elixir” became a New York Times best seller, has released the follow-up novel “Devoted” Tuesday (Oct. 11). She tells MTV the second book is just as exciting as the first.
“Devoted’ picks up basically where ‘Elixir’ left off, and Clea has a lot
of big questions to answer and decisions to make,” says Hilary.
“Clearly Sage and her got separated, and
it didn’t end ideally for them, so she’s having a hard time.”
“She’s going to team up with Ben again, who’s her best friend. They’ve
ended on bad terms, so now she has to be the bigger person and go back
to him and beg him to help her even though she’s really upset with him,
and then the story goes on from there,” Duff continues. “They go on to have a really big
adventure, and there’s a huge fight scene at the end of the book that
was a lot of fun to write and a lot of new characters. It’s fun.”
“Devoted” hits shelves almost a year to the day after “Elixir” was released, but Duff says the as-of-yet unnamed third book in the trilogy will probably happen more quickly.
“I’m gonna start writing soon. It will probably be very emotional for my
state. I think it will come out a little sooner because it will be
easier and quicker,” says Duff.
