Come back, Tom Cruise! All is forgiven!
That is the message that’s being sent out this week in Hollywood as Variety reports that no fewer than five major studios are down on bended knee, hoping the star will agree to star in their projects.
Quite a turnaround from last year, when many were predicting Cruise’s career to be almost over and pointing to his turn in the much-mocked "Valkyrie" as proof. But even though Tom didn’t do a German accent, the movie did better than expected and suddenly Tom is bankable again!
Tom just got attached to the David Cronenberg-directed MGM spy thriller "The Matarese Circle" with Denzel Washington.
Spyglass is hoping he’ll star in their remake of "The Tourist" with Charlize Theron.
DreamWorks has "Motorcade," which sounds like "Air Force One" set in the presidential motorcade, to be directed by "Live Free or Die Hard" director Len Wiseman.
Universal has the romantic comedy "Lost for Words," which would have Tom in a love triangle with a Chinese director and her jealous translator.
Twentieth Century Fox has the comedy "Wichita," which would team him up with Cameron Diaz, and Fox 2000 has "The Hardy Men," which would re-team him with his "Tropic Thunder" costar Ben Stiller.
Which one should Tom pick first? You can’t go wrong with David Cronenberg, but after Tom’s stellar turn in "Tropic Thunder," we’re dying to see him do comedy again.
