“I will be very happy to report in a very few days, I believe, that things will be resolved” for a “HIMYM” pickup, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said Saturday (Jan. 12) at the TCA winter press tour. “We’re very confident and excited that it will all work out. Almost everything is complete.”
Tassler notes that creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas had two plans for this season, one for this being the last year and one for extending the show into 2013-14. “We’re going to sit down and talk to them, probably in about a month, to see what their plans would be for next year,” she says.
It also sounds as though Ted (Josh Radnor) won’t meet the mother of his kids until very late in the series. Tassler won’t reveal when the mother will appear, but she does say she’s wondered whether the show could continue after her introduction.
“We talked about this the other day — do people watch the show beyond knowing the mother?” Tassler says. “I bet there are a lot of people that would continue to watch after that. But it would be the end as designed by Carter and Craig, and I wouldn’t want to even attempt to undermine whatever their creative goal is.”
“How I Met Your Mother” resumes its eighth season at 8 p.m. ET Monday on CBS.
