howard stern americas got talent agt Howard Stern returning to 'America's Got Talent' for a second season“America’s Got Talent” is still searching for a replacement for judge Sharon Osbourne, but Howard Stern isn’t going anywhere.

NBC announced Monday (Dec. 3) that Stern will be back for a second season as a judge on the network’s summer series. Auditions for the coming season are already under way.

“Howard Stern’s towering presence and opinions on last season’s show as a new judge made a dramatic impact and added a sharper edge to the fascinating developments on stage,” says Paul Telegdy, NBC’s head of alternative programming. “We know that Howard believes in ‘America’s Got Talent’ … and that dedication comes across in a genuine way to our viewers who share his passion about our amazing talent competition.”

Stern’s presence last summer did not goose ratings for “AGT” — the show drew its second-smallest average audience ever last summer. On the other hand, having Stern in primetime also didn’t cause the moral fabric of the nation to unravel, as groups who protested his hiring warned.

NBC hasn’t yet named a replacement for Osbourne, who left “AGT” at the end of last season in a dispute with the network over the treatment of her son, Jack, on another show, “Stars Earn Stripes.”
