When a beloved book series is made into a film, there’s always the risk that favorite characters may not be portrayed as you hoped they’d be. Fans of Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” are eagerly awaiting the March 23 release of the first film to decide whether the characters have fulfilled their expectations.
Now, we’ve got a first look at one of our favorites from the series — Katniss’ (Jennifer Lawrence) lead stylist Cinna, who will be portrayed by Lenny Kravitz. “His job is to help her forge an impression, so she has a better chance of surviving,” Kravitz explained in an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Tuesday. As Katniss enters a battle to the death — which is broadcast like a reality show, where fans can send help to help their favorite tributes survive — Cinna shapes her public image.
Cinna plays a pivotal role as one of Katniss’ few allies — a role that producers wanted to amplify in the film so much they cut back on other characters’ screen time. “We agreed that the main thing is to establish Cinna. So we had to sort of borrow from Peter to pay Paul,” producer Nina Jacobson said, explaining the reduced roles of Cinna’s assistants Octavia, Flavius and Venia.
