One of Nickelodeon’s most popular shows is about to welcome a pretty big guest star. First Lady Michelle Obama is set to appear in an upcoming episode of “iCarly” to promote Joining Forces, an initiative that will aim to increase awareness and support for military families, the Nickelodeon president Cyma Zarghami tells the AP.
On the show, titular character Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) is the daughter of a colonel who is serving overseas. The plot of the episode will feature Carly’s friends breaking some rules to set up a birthday chat between Carly and her father, which the first lady discovers and comes to talk to the girl about it. Show creator and executive producer Dan Schneider wrote the episode just for the first lady and her Joining Forces initiative.
“When she approached us, after he was done jumping
for joy, Dan sat down and came up with a very, very clever idea,” says Zarghami. “It’s a feel-good initiative and
regardless of your political affinity, everybody cares about these
families, so it just feels right.”
The Obama “iCarly” episode is likely to air in January.
