Michelle Williams just seems to get more and more adorable with each passing year. She takes fashion risks, but they’re calculated and almost never backfire on the 31-year-old actress.
At Saturday’s (Feb. 25) Independent Spirit Awards, Williams picked up Best Actress honors for her turn as Marilyn Monroe in “My Week with Marilyn.” But she also attracted a lot of attention for her unorthodox ensemble: a shorts suit and a clutch made to resemble an edition of J.D. Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye.”
The suit was from Louis Vuitton’s pre-fall 2012 collection and the bag was by Olympia Le-Tan. She carried a similar Le-Tan bag to the BAFTAS on Feb. 12.
Her speech was also adorable and, reports the New York Times, the best received of the event:
“I wore my own clothes, which were not very good,” said Williams of her first Independent Spirits experience a decade ago. “And I cut my own hair, which was not very good. But I still remember feeling that in this room, that was O.K., possibly even preferred.
“And what I thought then, and I still feel now, is that it’s because this is a room full of misfits, outcasts, loners, dreamers, mumblers, delinquents, dropouts – just like me. And I want to say thank you for supporting me, and welcoming me and making me feel at home in this room and in this community, all the way back then, and now, when the only thing that I own that I’m wearing is my dignity. Thank you very much.”
