American Apparel is launching its newest ad campaign just in time for LGBT Pride month. Featuring “America’s Next Top Model” alum Isis King (the show’s only transgender contestant to date) and several former and current GLAAD employees, the ads show people from all walks of life wearing AA’s LGBT shirts.
A percentage of the proceeds from each T-shirt sale will go toward GLAAD’s ongoing work to support equality. It’s American Apparel’s first national ad campaign featuring a transgender model.
“We’re super proud to support LGBT Pride again this year and partner with GLAAD in these events. It’s time for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, to accept each other and thrive in harmony. We hope everyone comes out and joins us,” says American Apparel creative director Marsha Brady in a statement.
GLAAD President Herndon Graddick commends AA for its work and its use of a transgender model, saying in a statement, “American Apparel is showing bold leadership by being among just a few companies to include transgender people in its national ads. Additionally, the company’s statement that ‘Gay is OK’ will reach millions and send an important message in support of equality.”
