In the first of the photos, the women appear to be mooning the camera, having dropped their pants for the shot. Later images depict women in underwear holding their guns in strategic positions.
The specific punishment received by the four women was not made public. A statement from the Israeli army said only, “The commanding officers disciplined the soldiers as they saw fitting.”
It may not have helped — additional photos of the women appeared after the group received their reprimand.
A group of frisky female Israeli soldiers published three more half-naked photos of themselves while on duty, almost immediately after they were punished for posting a similar photo last week on Facebook.
It has been against Israeli military policy for soldiers to post on social media sites since 2010. The ban came after an embarrassing incident in which photos of soldiers dancing suggestively around Palestinian prisoners were posted. Despite this, incidents of nakedness and racism have continued to emerge from the military. These most recent photos are believed to have been inspired by a similar shot posted to Facebook in 2012.
