ja rule in jail Ja Rule released from prison, put on home confinement until JulyBack in early March, rapper Ja Rule (real name Jeffrey Atkins) left a New York state prison, where he had been serving a two-year sentence for illegal gun possession, and was put in a federal prison in order to fulfill his sentence for failing to pay taxes between 2004 and 2006.

At the time, Atkins was expected to be released July 28. But he is a free man much sooner, reports TMZ, as the rapper will now complete his sentence via home confinement.

Atkins’ spokesperson, Melanie A. Bonvicino, says in a statement, “My client Jeffrey Atkins was released this morning from
the Raybrook Correctional Facility in Upstate New York to serve out his
federal time obligation due under the terms set forth in accordance with
home confinement which were secured by his attorney Stacy Richman. At present, he looks forward to spending some time with his family while he completes his memoir.”

Atkins will be under house arrest until the July 28 release date.
