jacintha saldanha suicide hanging Jacintha Saldanha: Coroner's inquest reveals she died by hanging

More sad news has come out surrounding the death of royal prank call receptionist Jacintha Saldanha. The coroner’s inquest reveals that she was found having hanged herself and left three suicide notes.

Coroner’s officer Lynda Martindill reveals that Saldanha’s body was discovered in her nurse’s quarters on Dec. 7 by one of her colleagues at King Edward VII Hospital. She was hanging by a scarf from a wardrobe and had injuries on her wrists. Attempts to revive her at the scene failed, and the incident was pronounced an apparent suicide.

There were three suicide notes found in total: Two at the scene and another in her belongings. Police are trying to determine what exactly caused her to take her life, but many blame the prank call made by Australian DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian.

The two DJs called up King Edward VII Hospital pretending to be Queen Elizabeth II and asking to speak to Kate Middleton. Saldanha was the receptionist who answered the call and immediately connected it to Middleton’s room. The nurse who then took the phone call bought the poor impressions of the queen and gave away personal information about the Duchess of Cambridge. The call later aired on the 2Day FM radio channel.

“We are very sorry for what has happened,” 2Day FM chief executive Rhya Holleran said in a statement, revealing the station had started a memorial fund for Saldanha’s family. “It is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts continue to be with the family. We hope that by contributing to a memorial fund we can help to provide the Saldanha family with the support they need at this very difficult time.”
