james whitey bulger guilty racketeering James 'Whitey' Bulger guilty of racketeering, murder

After five days of deliberations, a federal jury has found former mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger guilty on 31 of the 32 charges he was hit with, including several counts of murder and racketeering. He was originally believed to have allegedly helped plan or taken part in 19 killings, but the jury decided he was only involved in 11, the Associated Press reports.
The sentencing phase of Bulger’s trial is set for November 13, at which point he could get life in prison on the charges he was found guilty of. However, at 83 years old, almost any sentence longer than a few years could become life.
Bulger was apprehended in Los Angeles in June 2011, after being on the run for over 15 years. He was the basis of Jack Nicholson’s role in the Martin Scorsese movie “The Departed.” There is also a move about Bulger’s life in development. Originally, Johnny Depp was set to play the mobster, though he left the project in May.
