Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney on Saturday Night LiveWith the departures of Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg from “Saturday Night Live,” it was rumored Jason Sudeikis would not be far behind. But those rumors have been dispelled Wednesday (Sept. 12), just four days before the late-night sketch comedy show launches its 38th season.

“SNL” creator Lorne Michaels tells the New York Times, “Jason is in. Right now, the idea is that Jason will go through at least until January.”

One wonders if the show’s main objective was to have someone to play Romney for this upcoming election cycle. Sudeikis not only resembles the Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, but he does do a masterful job with his impersonation.

“Saturday Night Live” premieres Saturday, Sept. 15 with host Seth MacFarlane and musical guest Frank Ocean, followed up by Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s return on Sept. 22 and Daniel Craig‘s hosting debut on Sept. 29.
