Jeff Daniels, fresh off an Emmy win for his portrayal of Will McAvoy on HBO’s “The Newsroom,” is going in a different direction in late 2014 when he reprises the role of Harry Dunne in the sequel to 1994 hit comedy “Dumb and Dumber,” appropriately titled “Dumb and Dumber To.”

Daniels tells “Today” that it was a joy to work with co-star Jim Carrey again and that he hopes this installment is as well-received as the first one.

“I’ve been lucky, the people I get to work with. I think Jim’s
got a one-of-a-kind gift, I think he’s a comedic genius,” says Daniels. “To marry what I
can do with him is a joy, we blend well together.

“We’ve become friends
over the years and I think that translates into Harry and Lloyd. We’re
still middle-aged and still that stupid, that’s a given. It was a joy to
make and I hope it’s funnier than the first one.”

Daniels also gives host Matt Lauer a taste of one of his latest songs, titled “Baby, Take Your Tongue Out of My Mouth, I’m Kissing You Goodbye” — in case you didn’t know, the actor is an accomplished singer-songwriter — and also says he was “stunned” by his Emmy win.

“Kathleen, my wife and I, we were there for the food,” says Daniels, in all seriousness.

“Dumb and Dumber To” opens nationwide Nov. 14, 2014 and “The Newsroom” returns for Season 3 in summer 2014.
