Jenni Rivera, a bilingual singer and reality star, is believed to be dead following a plane crash in northern Mexico. Rivera was on board a Learjet on the way to Topanga, near Mexico City, when the pilot lost contact.
Transportation and communication minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza says that the plane was found in Nuevo Leon state, without survivors. “There is nothing recognizable, neither material nor human [in the wreckage],” he says.
Rivera gave a press conference the day before her death, in which she was asked about her recent divorce from Major League Baseball pitcher Esteban Loaiza. “I am a woman like any other and ugly things happen to me like any other
woman,” she said. “The number of times I have fallen down is the number
of times I have gotten up.”
Rivera had recently signed on to star an ABC comedy pilot called “Jenni,” about a single Latina mother running a family business. She was 43, and is survived by five children and two grandchildren.
