jennifer lawrence elle cover Jennifer Lawrence says she's considered 'obese' by Hollywood standardsJennifer Lawrence is speaking out about how she’s perceived in Hollywood — and unapologetically embracing the fact that she’s not stick-thin.

“In Hollywood, I’m obese,” the “Hunger Games” star tells Elle magazine in its December issue. “I’m considered a fat actress. I’m Val Kilmer in that one picture on the beach.”

When “The Hunger Games” was released in March — indeed, even when her casting was announced — there was talk online that Lawrence was too … womanly to play the part of Katniss, who in the books is described as very thin, bordering on malnourished. (The movie’s producers for the most part cast actors a few years older than the characters’ ages in the books.)

Lawrence is not losing much sleep over the criticism, though.

“I’m never going to starve myself for a part. … I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner,'” she tells the magazine. “That’s something I was really conscious of during training, when you’re trying to get your body to look exactly right. I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong — not thin and underfed.”

The interview also touches on Lawrence’s relationship with her boyfriend and fellow “X-Men: First Class” star, Nicholas Hoult (“He’s my favorite person to be around”), her occasional tendency to speak before she thinks (“I never know what’s going to come out of my mouth”) and her frugal nature (she still lives with her parents).

You can read the full interview when the December issue of Elle hits newsstands on Tuesday (Nov. 13).
