jermaine jackson name change Jermaine Jackson changing last name to Jacksun, disses the letter 'O'C’mon, sun! Jermaine Jackson filed a petition in Los Angeles Nov. 6 to legally change his famous last name to Jacksun.

In his filing, Michael Jackson‘s older brother cites “artistic reasons” for his request to swap the spelling of the last syllable from “son” to “sun.”

A rep for the singer — who is currently performing in Europe with brothers Jackie, Marlon and Tito for The Jacksons Unity Tour — insists to the Associated Press that “phonetically, it changes nothing.”

“It is something he has chosen to do,” he added, quipping, “It’s fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you’ve got to blame it on the sunshine,” in reference to the Jackson 5‘s disco hit “Blame It on the Boogie.”

If nothing else, the vowel swap is generating plenty of publicity for the 57-year-old, who recently released a jazz album and is promoting a book, “You Are Not Alone,” a memoir about the late King of Pop.

A hearing on Jackson’s name-change petition is scheduled for Feb. 22 in Los Angeles.
